Rebecca Pick, Founder and CEO of Pick Protection Ltd was a finalist in our AccelerateHER 2016 Pitch competition, pitching a unique lone working and personal attack alarm, the Personal Guardian.
We asked Rebecca about her experience of the AccelerateHER competition and her advice to other entrepreneurs …
What motivated you to enter AccelerateHER 2016?
It was a competition that I thought I fitted the criteria well. I thought if successful it may be a chance to raise the profile of my company by gaining potential PR opportunities, it would also build my network of successful females in business, which could be an opportunity to start to build the sales pipeline, also the prize money was really appealing and was the main business case for the time spent on the competition entry.
What challenges were you facing at the time in your business?
Raising investment was key at that time and trying to build sales pipeline.
What have been the main benefits to you by entering the competition and how has your business progressed since?
The PR from during and after the competition was great, particularly the recent STV feature… meeting the investing women group was great and is access to a whole new network. Also, the prize money was helpful, as that went into product development.
What piece of advice would you give to other growth aspiring entrepreneurs in Scotland?
I think growing the team is a challenge and particularly getting the right board so my advice would be to not make any rush decisions, always get second opinions and use trial periods.
