It’s hard to say what the highlight was of our high octane, high speed AccelerateHER week in San Francisco. Listening to our seven women entrepreneurs blow the socks off more than 50 of California’s top angels and influencers who had congregated specifically to meet them perhaps?
Or was it the private session with Ron Weissman? Not only did Ron captivate us all recounting his amazing journey alongside Steve Jobs; but he then proceeded to give an instant analysis of each entrepreneur’s pitch, business potential and offer quite the most incisive advice I think I’ve ever witnessed.
And then there was Bob Bozeman who was so understated you could almost have missed the fact that he backed Google at start-up! Bob shares the same generosity of spirit that we experienced with everyone who was part of this amazing week. Having already opened doors and set up multiple hard to get introductions, Bob continues to work hard at helping each one of our entrepreneurs.
Amy Norman, CEO and co-founder of Little Passports may not (yet) be a household name in the UK but she inspired every one of us to such an extent that I think we will be seeing more of her soon………watch this space! Oh, and worth mentioning; her company has just been voted into the top 10 companies to work for in San Francisco. That is some accolade against the tech giants and household names we all know and gives you a hint of why she is someone worth listening to.
And then Duncan Davidson entertained us greatly at Bullpen Capital. It may have been the first time his board room was full of women but I’m not sure who enjoyed this most! Duncan’s sharp wit matches his great business insights based on massive experience; which of course includes the Fan Duel Scottish connection. We think Duncan’s Scottish lineage still runs deep based on his enthusiasm to help our Scottish entrepreneurs!
And rounding off the week with best seller and serial Silicon Valley entrepreneur John Chisholm was the icing on the cake. John’s remarkable ‘Unleash Your Inner Company’ offers such great depth and wisdom; every entrepreneur should read this. The combination of Passion and Perseverance is something every one of our Scottish contingent has in their DNA – it was so good to hear John talk about these ‘assets’.
These descriptions I give are the tip of the iceberg really; there was so much more but I do not want to steal the thunder of our entrepreneurs ….as their ‘stories’ will follow soon. But I absolutely want to close by highlighting the enormous power of dynamic, high energy women supporting each other to succeed. That’s what made this week particularly special.
Our very special thanks to Gwen Edwards and Susan Preston; powerhouses within their own country. This is an amazing community that they’ve inspired and we are all very much part of it!
